WinDVD is a free video and music player application developed by Corel Corporation, which has long been leading in the graphics processing industry. It enables you to view your DVD videos or movies on your desktop. With its update, it now supports more files such as HEVC (H.265) and streaming of 4K videos, and it displays enhanced and smooth high-frame-rate playback.   

Great range of features

This DVD player app has a great collection of features, such as its bookmark option that allows you to be able to create your own bookmarks to easily jump to your favorite part in the movie. It enables you to take a screenshot of the scene you loved or even record a short moving clip—in which you can save the output as a BMP and an animated GIF, respectively. Through this app, you can also improve the image or video quality of all non-HD discs with the use of its All2HD feature.

You can also customize your playback speed according to your preference. Plus, you can personalize more of your settings under the Enhancements option. You can alter your color settings to make it match with your output device. Moreover, you also have the capability to adjust brightness, contrast, hue, color, and GAMMA. You also have an array of video enhancements that cater to the areas such as De-noise and De-interlace.

The audio quality this program provides is also impressive, especially when DVD-Video or AVCHD is in use with movie theater-quality Dolby Digital audio. The software’s main controls—play, fast forward, rewind, amongst others—works fine and its user interface looks clean—however, the settings menu brings hassle more than convenience. For instance, it requires you to go full-screen mode just to see all the options available to you. Furthermore, the disc region isn’t always correctly recognized that oftentimes, the Windows auto-play options beat it.

WinDVD is a great software to have, especially if you want to view your DVD video clips at the highest video and audio quality possible. It features tons of useful functions and highly-customizable option settings that enable you to tweak your viewing experience to the best quality you want. However, its menu settings need to be worked on a lot, as it will be a great frustration for the user-end.
