Last entry in The Sands of Time trilogy

Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones is a premium action game from Ubisoft, serving as the third and final entry into Prince of Persia’s Sands of Time Trilogy. Also combining the franchise’s unique platforming and role-playing elements, you follow The Prince as he returns home only to find himself in an alternate timeline.

Originally released in 2005, the graphics and controls of Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones no longer hold up against modern games. However, it’s a definite upgrade compared to its predecessors, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within.

Go on a time-bending adventure

Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones takes place right after Warrior Within. After defeating the Dahaka, the Prince returns to his home in Babylon, only to find out that his previous actions have undone everything—including the events from The Sands of Time. The Vizier returns and must be defeated once more, while the Prince fights off the corruption of the Sands in the form of his dark avatar.

In terms of the story, this has some solid treatment of alternate timelines while building on the narratives from the first two games. You also make use of the Prince’s agility to traverse different parts of the game. Aside from running on walls to swinging from ledges, you also get to drive a chariot. Another feature is its Speed Kill, where well-timed attacks quickly dispose of enemies.

Also, the game features an amazing cinematic soundtrack, including pieces performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony Orchestra. The same goes for its voice-acting work. Still, as a game released in 2005, expect it to be dated in appearance. Its supported resolution is lower than modern games, and the animation is not as fast or as smooth as games like Elden Ring.

A fitting end to the Sands storyline

Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones offers a thrilling journey through time, weaving a captivating narrative that builds upon its predecessors. The game's utilization of alternate timelines adds depth, complemented by the Prince's dynamic agility and engaging gameplay mechanics like Speed Kill. Despite its dated appearance, the cinematic soundtrack and voice acting elevate the experience. It's a nostalgic adventure worth revisiting.
