Sirenhead: Southpoint is a first-person horror role-playing game that takes place in the 1980s. Therefore, it offers a decidedly retro feel, and this sense of nostalgia is then combined with intense elements of suspense. It features impressively detailed graphics, and players can be equipped with various weapons.
Boasting a flavor that is similar to other survival RPGs, such as Blair Witch, Sirenhead: Southpoint immerses players within a remote section of woods, where unexpected surprises seem to lurk around every dark corner.
Players take on the role of a teenager named Freddy Anderson. What was originally planned to be nothing more than a casual camping trip soon devolves into a fight for survival as the main character finds himself alone in the woods.
Sirenhead: Southpoint combines the psychological suspense of being suddenly thrown into an unfamiliar environment with the presence of an unknown malevolent entity that utilizes the forest itself to hunt its unsuspecting prey.
The somewhat open narrative of this game provides a fair amount of flexibility. For example, Freddy can choose to run away from the monster, or he can instead opt to fight for his life. Each action will ultimately affect the outcome, and the main question involves whether or not he can escape with his life.
The level of psychological suspense offered by Sirenhead: Southpoint is comparable to other well-known horror RPGs, such as Slide in the Woods. Although this platform can be classified as a walking SIM, there are still many areas to explore and clues that need to be interpreted. A lack of background music will also add to the trepidation that players encounter.
