Dwarves: Glory, Death and Loot is a premium 2D RPG platformer with hack-and-slash gameplay. This roguelike platformer and auto-battler game by ichbinhamma is reminiscent of both Slay the Spire and Terraria. It boasts primitive graphics with similar life and mana menus.
The Dwarves: Glory, Death, and Loot (DGDL) game features a whirlwind army of dwarves. The cast has a variety of special skills, letting players charge through a forest to decimate orcs, trolls, and dragons for the sake of loot and potentially a glorious death. All units are fully customizable in terms of gear, too, allowing you to have a party of diverse members.
Like a gameboard, Dwarves: GDL features three major phases per round: the event phase, battle preparation, and the battlefield. The event phase involves choosing from three options: buying equipment, recruiting dwarves, or diving headfirst into battle. Next comes a selection of equipment and battlefield positions, and the final phase involves auto-combat with permadeath, mana-dependent skill activation, and wisdom-based mana regeneration.
Players get three dwarves and 500 gold to start with, and they can build a clan 10-dwarf strong. There are seven different classes: Thief, Knight, Archer, Mage, Priest, Supporter, and Warrior, seven attack types, 15 skills, 60 pieces of equipment, and various types of enemies. After each battle is concluded, players are given a choice—if they want to pursue more monsters and level up, hire new dwarves, or shop for shiny new weapons.
Meanwhile, playing more will earn players gems they can spend on upgrades in the skill book. The unlocked skills, both passive and active, will apply to the next battles. As players progress further, they will discover new combinations of enemy types, making way for a more strategic approach to things. Rearrange the legion build as necessary to wipe the floor with the opponents. However, the lack of in-game guides or tutorials is a pressing issue for beginners.
Dwarves: Glory, Death and Loot is a game ideal for nostalgic RPG players who want a taste of the old times. Its fantasy characters tick a lot of boxes—dragons, trolls, and orcs—and then there is also the pull of the Discord community to make this dynamic roguelike scratch the proverbial auto-combat itch. Plus, the combat just gets more and more intense as you play.
