Genshin Impact is a free-to-play role-playing game developed by miHoYo. The game takes place in a fictional, mythical world called Teyvat. In this dimension, certain individuals are granted a Vision by the gods. Visions are magical gemstones that give their bearer the ability to control an element. You will start out as a Traveler who is searching for a lost sibling. It is up to you if you want to be a female or male version of the main character.
Genshin Impact takes place in Teyvat, a world blessed by seven Elemental Archons. In the distant past, the Archons granted mortals unique elemental abilities which allowed them to form a bountiful homeland out of the wilderness. However, the collapse of Teyvat has turned the universe upside down. The suffering has since ceased and the lands are slowly healing but peace has yet to be restored in Mondstadt, the City of Wind.
One of the Seven Archons' agents, the Fatui, has been oppressing the surrounding city-states under the guise of protection. You have woken up in Teyvat as a mortal without any idea of just where your sibling could be. As you find a way home, you will meet new characters and find out more about The Seven. It’s important to be on the lookout for clues as they will unearth something miraculous.
In this open-world game, you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled. You will also need to engage in real-time combat and forage for sustenance to boost your stats. As the story progresses, you will be able to play as the characters—or with other players—you meet along the way. Every Genshin Impact character has its own unique personality and special ability. Together, they will undertake quests to know more about the primordial gods of their world.
They're not easy to get, though, as some 5-star characters like Cyno and Ayaka are available for a limited time only. Fortunately, the second Wish Event banner type allows returning characters to be available much more frequently. This is great since some characters have element-specific abilities that would make them formidable opponents to dreaded enemies like the Abyss Heralds and Black Serpent Knights.
While tensions heat up in Fontaine, Travelers will go head to head with Fatui Harbinger, Arlecchino, as she obtains her own Story Quest and Trounce Domain in Genshin Impact’s 4.6 update. Alongside Arlecchino, players will also be able to obtain Lyney in the Limited Event Banners for the patch’s first half, which suits its tag of “Two Worlds Aflame, the Crimson Night Fades” as both characters are both Pyro users. In the latter half, you’ll be able to wish for returning 5-star characters Wanderer — also known as Scaramouch — as well as Baizhu.
This update also makes way for new regions on the Fontaine map, namely The Nostoi Region and the Kingdom of Remuria. Within these new regions, you’ll find a new Artifact Domain, as well as a new boss enemy that will drop necessary resources to help level up Arlecchino. However, players shouldn’t focus on just the region of Hydro as numerous other quests and events in this update will take place in various areas of Teyvat’s map.
Two Worlds Aflame, the Crimson Night Fades also presents Travelers with Cyno’s story quest, allowing them to travel back to the desserts of Sumeru. Meanwhile, yet another music-related event will take place in Inazuma, where characters will be able to obtain a playable instrument, as well as a copy of the character Gorou. There’s also the combat-based Vibro-Crystal Applications event which will take place in The Chasm, where you can test out your own characters, as well as trial characters in a series of action-packed battles.
In another anticipated move, players will be able to gain a little more knowledge on the upcoming region of Natlan in the Specially-Shaped Saurian Search event. The fun doesn’t stop there either as the fan-favorite Hide-and-Seek event, Windtrace makes its return with a few improvements. Additionally, the 4.6 update also features a wealth of optimizations to the game’s UI, Quest and Co-Op menus, and the Serenitea Teapot. Lastly, players can receive double talent material drops during the return of Overflowing Mastery.
A treasure trove of new content awaits Travelers of all levels in Genshin Impact’s update 4.7. The latest version, An Everlasting Dream Intertwined, adds three characters to the playable roster. Clorinde, the stance-shifting Electro swordswoman, and Sigewinne, the Hydro archer who juggles healing with elemental mastery, redefine combat possibilities. Meanwhile, Sethos, the Electro bow user, caters to a more technical playstyle, rewarding precise timing for devastating charged attacks.
Along with fresh faces comes an upgraded arsenal. The Absolution sword, with its Bond of Life damage boost, and the Silvershower Heartstrings bow, which rewards healers with increased critical hit rate, unlock exciting potential for min/maxing. Plus, the four-star Cloudforged bow empowers Elemental Mastery builds. For the lore-hungry, Archon Quest Chapter IV: Act VI continues the overarching narrative, and new character story quests promise deeper insights.
On the gameplay front, the update welcomes battle-tested Travelers to the Imaginarium Theater for a more intense combat experience. A permanent addition, this strategic challenge mode features combat stages with varying difficulty levels and elemental requirements. Quality-of-Life improvements, on the other hand, further sweeten the deal with an increased Resin cap for more farming opportunities, a higher friend limit to expand your social network, and additional login options.
Genshin Impact has similar elements to another action-adventure game called The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While this game also allows you to experience the world’s mythos, you will have full control over your first character, the Traveler, and the game’s other 30+ characters. Another difference is that cities and towns play a larger role in the storyline than BotW.
