A relaxing free-to-play building game

Everdale is a free strategy mobile video game wherein you can create a prosperous village in a beautiful valley with other players. Developed by Supercell, this 3D world-building game features peaceful farming sim and resource management gameplay and heavily incorporates cooperative multiplayer.

Similar to The Settlers and Hay Day, Everdale is all about the simple life and connecting with a vibrant online community. Unlike most of the developer’s games, you don’t have to worry about clashing with other players here as it offers non-competitive co-op gameplay. However, this is also its main drawback.

What is the point of Everdale?

Before there was Everdale, there was the game Valleys & Villages—an early alpha version that had been published under a different developer name to gauge how players would take to it. The developers wanted to see just how well their idea for a peaceful co-op game would work and so, once positive results came from months of the game’s release, Everdale was finalized and published.

The gameplay in this version is mostly the same: you start out building houses and resource centers in order to continuously grow your little village. To do so, you have to assign tasks to your villages—however, they also have needs of their own, so you’ll have to gather ingredients, farm, and cook to support them as they work. Your goal is to make your valley prosper.

Fortunately, you’re not alone in this endeavor. You share your valley with up to 9 other players and can help each other with tasks to further your goals. However, this also means that to improve your valley, you will mostly rely heavily on your neighbors—and so you can get stuck with the co-op tasks if they’re inactive. You also can’t create your own valley and invite friends there.

Still has room for improvement

Overall, Everdale is a nice little co-op game you can try out if you’re interested in simply building a cute village and beautifying a valley. While the co-op aspect itself can be a hassle, the gameplay mechanics are actually pretty solid and well-thought-out. Plus, the classic Supercell 3D graphic style suits its peaceful atmosphere. This is a highly recommended title for a change of pace.
